This realistic pet portrait was commissioned in memory of my client's golden retriever. She wanted to remember him in his prime and loved a picture of Brooksie playing in the ocean so we used it as the starting point for the painting. I started by providing the client several thumbnail sketches of different compositions and we both decided on the round porthole design. This composition allowed me to capture Brooksie's character and focus on details, like the water dripping off his wet fur and his bone-shaped dog tag.
