Caywood School Overglaze On Ceramic Tile Mural And Matching Cannisters: Your Village Series
The ceramic tile mural with matching porcelain cannisters, 'Caywood School Farm', is based on my country property and rural life. My home is a former one room schoolhouse decommissioned in the 1940's. All featured images; chestnut trees, garden space, farm animals, surrounding landscape, neighboring farms, and houses are hand painted and fired with overglaze paints. The mural border is lined with chestnut fruit. Our yearly corn harvest became the theme for the florets which connect and unify the array of personalized images.
The tile are conventional 4" x4" ceramic tiles. The matching porcelain cannisters were painted on four sides and the lids and fired to match the mural theme.
This mural is installed over our commercial 3-bay sink.
The style would be best defined in the "American Scene Painting" tradition.
