Mary is an amazing, self-taught chef. I promised her many years ago that one day, when we had a house with room, I'd build her a custom kitchen. So when we moved to Beverly, MA from Denver back in 2002, the project began. Several years later, the kitchen was complete.
There was no part of the original kitchen that wasn't altered. Windows, staircases, and doorways were relocated. The old, poorly-designed island was torn out, and floorboards replaced. New wiring, plumbing, insulation, custom heartwood cherry cabinets, and Carrara marble & soapstone countertops/sink went in. To this day, wouldn't change a thing.
Each carcass was built from 3/4" plywood, and all doors feature 3" extra-wide stiles & rails, and grain-matched raised panels - often constructed from a single slab of cherry. Drawers are all solid maple, through-dovetailed for strength. Several cabinets were built at a unique 38-degree angle, to allow for maximum space and easy passage to the kitchen from adjoining rooms. Even the full-extension spice rack was custom-designed for maximum convenience and ease of use.
All doors and drawers feature soft-close European hinges, and reproduction cast-iron hardware that harmonizes with the architectural style of the house.
