David made several great suggestions that improved on my original custom design. This was not for holding vials of essential oils, the vials hold rock samples taken every 10 feet from the surface down to 340 feet while we were drilling our well. The display shows an interesting variation of rock types at different depths. You'd have to be a geologist to really appreciate this display. Looks museum-grade. 5 stars all around!
This box is made entirely from solid cherry wood. It measures sixteen inches long, side to side, ten inches wide, front to back, and five inches tall. The box is made with hand cut dovetail corners, frame and panel lid, floating panel bottom, Brusso quadrant hinges, flush mount handles, and a key lock with a custom escutcheon.
The trays are made with box joint corners and the dividers are custom configured to match the owner's collection. The trays and the bottom of the box are lined with black cotton velvet. The finish is six coats of polished varnish.
