Christmas Holly Leaf Serving Bowl - Christmas Green

This large serving bowl was created by arranging holly leaves onto a rolled out slab of china-grade clay and impressing their images into the clay. The round indentations simulating holly berries were made with the ball shaped end of a swizzle stick.

I then lifted the sides of the slab, supporting them with small columns of clay, to create the fluted effect.

After allowing the bowl to dry I then cleaned up the edges with a wet sponge.

After its first kiln firing to the bisque stage I hand brush it with 4 coats of Christmas Green glaze.

The second firing was then run.

Fruit, salad, nuts, vegetables, flowers, this bowl has many uses all year long.

This bowl is part of my Holly Leaf Dinnerware set.

This is a fine example of the Majolica and Art Deco style of ceramic art.
