I use the technique cloisonné enamel to make the jellyfish. It entails carefully bending pure silver ribbons of wire and fusing them to a pure silver surface with clear enamel. Then I apply 24 karat gold and pure silver foil which is fused to the previous layer of enamel. The following layers of enamel are colored and can take up to 35 applications and firings in a kiln. After all the firings are complete the enamel jellyfish gets sanded down so the wires are flush to the glass. Then it gets sanded to a high polish, which gives the enamel jewel a gorgeous effect of depth and translucency. After that, the cloisonne jellyfish is bezel set in sterling silver textured setting with 18 karat gold details and a bezel set pink sapphire. The technique is quite labor intensive but the results are a magical beautiful piece of finely handcrafted jewelry. The jellyfish necklace comes with an adjustable oxidized sterling silver chain that can be worn long or short as shown in the pictures.
