I use the technique cloisonné enamel to make the mountain scene. It entails carefully bending pure silver ribbons of wire and fusing them to a pure silver surface with clear enamel. Then I apply 24 karat gold and pure silver foil which is fused to the previous layer of enamel. The following layers of enamel are colored and can take up to 35 applications and firings in a kiln. After all the firings are complete the enamel mountain scene gets sanded down so the wires are flush to the glass. Then it gets sanded to a high polish, which gives the enamel jewel a gorgeous effect of depth and translucency. After that, the cloisonne jewel is bezel set in sterling silver textured setting with a bezel set Amethyst. The technique is quite labor intensive but the results are a magical beautiful piece of finely handcrafted jewelry. The mountain necklace comes with a sterling silver chain.
