This chest has an aromatic cedar lining and a sliding tray. The lining is laminated to the back side of the slats used in the panels. The front sides are maple stained in the negative spaces with ultramarine. I own this piece and it sits in front a window with a large expanse of sky above it, so the clouds sort of rhyme with what's happening out there.
The framework and legs are ash. I built it to replace a more traditional chest, also cedar lined, that a friend had to have. The hardest part was really the clouds. I worked for two weeks on drawing the curves, knowing that it was a one shot deal once I cut the lines, with no turning back.
