This Commemorative Gladiator Sword was commissioned to be made so it could be presented to a valued and successful business owner.
One of the specifications for the sword was that it was to be constructed of contrasting woods, such as maple & walnut. The blade of the sword is made from maple, while the handle is made from walnut. The blade is securely attached to the handle by using maple dowels.
Another specification stipulated that the sword could be displayed either with a base to rest the sword on, or the sword could be mounted/displayed on a wall. This dual ability to display the sword was accomplished by making the supports under the sword swivel, allowing the sword to be displayed on a desk or table, and when the supports swiveled, the sword with the base, could be mounted on a wall.
The sword and base were given several coats of a mix of Danish wood oil/polyurethane, lightly sanded between coats, and finally a rub down with wax.
