Commission Landscape Painting

Secrets of the Forest was a commissioned piece, completed in late 2012. My client requested the piece to be based on aspen trees in autumn. They wanted the focus to mainly be on the trucks of the trees and not so much the canopy.

I did several thumbnail sketches and two color studies before we decided on the layout. The colors were to be bright and vibrant. The piece was stretched on cotton canvas that was gessoed in black to pop the colors more.

After doing a light sketch of the trucks, blocked in the main colors and continued the block in process until the piece was covered. I sent several work in progress photos to my client for approval along the way.

They were extremely happy with the result. This was their second painting done by me in the past 2 years.
