This conference table was designed and built in collaboration with Brian Reid, a furniture designer in Maine with a specialty in patterned veneer work. Brian and I produce corporate work to the design trade. In this case we worked with an interior designer to produce this stunning piece and a credenza for a private foundation in downtown Boston. The top is constructed as a torsion box. A torsion box is a sandwich of fiber board on top, then a grid of thin wooden slats about 8 inches on center, then another layer of fiber board on the bottom. This is the best way to make very large and thick table tops which will resist sag and warpage. The table has wire chases built into the structure to bring power and media to the media pods on either end. The pattern of curly veneer in the top shimmers under 5 coats of lacquer. Brian and I enjoy working in partnership with the design trade.
