Contemporary Tall Clock
This contemporary version of a grandfather clock is unlike any you may have ever seen. The clock acquired the name "Wow" after being exhibited at an art show. At the show, people would approach the clock and stop in their tracks about five or six feet away. They would not say anything for some time and then they would almost universally say "Wow". This happened so many times that I had to name the piece after the reaction.
This unique clock is composed of a cherry case with accents of curly maple and painted elements. These elements visually coalesce around copper leafed blocks inside the case. The glowing interior is illuminated by dimmer-controlled light. The painted clock face has brass numbers and time markings and brass hands. The bob at the end of the pendulum is also of brass.
"Wow" now graces a living room on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. At night when the clock is illuminated, it is a piece of sculpture overlooking the East River.
