There are 16 octahedron units in this arrangement called the vector equilibrium, or traditionally a cube/octahedron. Each octahedron unit is open through opposite sides allowing for the flow of space in and out through the cavity center, giving form to space with texture and surface, passages connecting mind to matter, and what matters to mind; all reasons enough to call this Cranium.
