Crocheted hemp necklace with freeform flowers and vines
Vines of deep green entwine a blue trellis. Vermillion buds peep around the edges, mingling with verdant leaves. A scarlet blossom bursts in the center.
I crocheted the blue foundation for this necklace with long-staple hemp, which is not rough or scratchy and has a texture is closer to linen than most hemp threads. The other colors are slightly coarser, but the overall effect is soft and wearable. It is clasped in the back with a glass button and a series of loops. The hemp used in this necklace is new, but sustainable. Hemp requires less water to grow and no pesticides, unlike cotton and many other plant fibers.
