Tables of these dimensions are generally referred to as "sofa tables" as it would go behind of the sofa to divide a room.
In this case however it fits quite nicely against the wall. The curly maple is book matched. We were quite lucky to find this piece as the curl is spectacular. This is oftentimes referred to as tiger maple. It's also used for musical instruments and is generally considered softer than sugar maple.
The joinery is floating mortise and tendon with the exception of the bottom shelf. The shelf actually is mounted as you would bread boards on the ends of a table. The top is approximately 1" thick.
This particular example is 55" W X 14" D X 29 ½" H.
