Custom Baby Cradle
These are custom Heirloom Cradles that measure 38 1/2"Lx 21"wx18"t when sitting on the floor. The special feature about this cradle is that it sits in a stand that is 35" tall and rocks very smooth. It can be lifted out of the stand and set on the floor or moved to another room. The stand helps keep the young mothers from having to bend over to a cradle on the floor all the time. A stop peg on one end keeps the cradle from rocking in the stand during changing or dressing times. Also as the baby gets bigger they roll to one side or the other and the cradle leans that way. The peg holds it straight. No fasteners are used in the cradle itself, all mortise and tenon joints.
Sides and end panels are 3/16" "A" grade plywood. With the design of your choice (shown above are "Hearts"), I have done Butterflies, Turtles, Teddy Bears, Polar Bears just remember it needs to cut out in a silhouette. Then you order, a sample picture will be send for approval. The color will also be approved before the cradle is completed.
The stand is built in (5) five pieces and bolted together. That will require assembly. The top brace is at a level that reduces sway its also a stop to keep the cradle from rocking to far. Top pivots are hardwood dowel and the caps are Red Oak.
The entire Cradle and stand are made of Select White Pine. I have made them from Oak and Maple and the issues are they weigh to much for the young mother to handle alone. So instead of reducing the member sizes trying to reduce weight, I choose a lighter material.
In the years to come it can be used a toy box, waiting for brother or sister to arrive!!
