This was a project to design and construct and install a custom built-in Entertainment Center.
The entire unit structure was constructed from ½" MDF in a double wall construction system that allowed wiring to be routed to every area. The surface areas for the unit were textured (medium coarse orange peel) to match the walls in the living room, and likewise, painted to match the walls. The door rails and stiles were constructed from oak with MDF and plastic panels. The hidden speaker system included panels that were trim mold frames with cloth centers for the right and left uppers and also right and left subwoofer installation in the base. The sliding base unit for the TV was built from plywood and MDF mounted on full extension slides that allow the TV to be slid forward and swiveled for access to the rear.
The key element of this project was to design and construct an entertainment center that allowed the husband to have his large screen HD TV and sound system integrated into a unit that the wife could decorate and call hers at the same time. The design had to match this customer's living rooms existing construction and Spanish theme that included radiused corner walls and textured finish. There was also a need for built in electric switches for the recessed lighting that included a wireless remote. The plastic panels in the doors were to allow the IR controls for the system equipment to work without opening the doors.
