Custom Indian Totem Eagle Ring

This was an exceedingly large ring,sz 14.. made with a piece of turquoise that the man had from a cast ring which eventually was cracked in a number of places & had to be cut off from his finger because it kept catching on things. He really liked the stone & was also very strongly attracted to his totem animal the Eagle, so I sought to make him a ring which would incorporate both those concepts. Since he was older at the time & no longer given to fist fights (which his knuckles had been damaged by}, we decided I should make him a ring that would be a bit lighter & easier to get on & off over his knuckle , since he couldn't remove the last one, which was why it eventually cracked ..

I made this one using flat metal metal fabrication, doubling 18 gage sterling sheet in order to give some heft & thickness without the weight of cast metal & was able to salvage one of the leaves from his other ring & made a matching one to use as accents, making the eagle head as large as possible. Long before they became more popular I made the ring 'squared' off' rather than round, to accommodate removing it over his knuckle without having to pull his finger off....LOL!!!!

It was a good project & he was very happy to once again have his totem on his hand.
