When I renovated my Cambridge condo I saved money by doing the kitchen myself. The larger project can be seen on my website. The kitchen had to utilize every inch of space without seeming over crowded. I used air dried ash for all of the doors and drawer fronts and rock maple for the drawer sides. The ribbed glass only came clear, so I built a sand blasting cabinet and frosted the back of the glass to soften the effect. The tiles are Indian slate, and a friend who did the granite for me, put a rock faced edge on it at my request.
The facing cabinets, also on my site, include a swing out pantry and pot storage cabinet that replace all of the space I lost when I cut in a doorway.
