Custom Mantle In Antique Cypress

This mantle was added to a turn-of-the-century Victorian home that had a substantial amount of cypress trim on the first floor. The Canadian stone "Eramosa" was used for the hearthstone and the tile. I designed the tile pattern to use two levels of finish (honed and flamed) to create a subtle harlequin pattern only visible when the stone is viewed from particular angles. The firebox is a Rumford (17th century) design and was extremely heat efficient. The woodwork is all framed and paneled like a piece of furniture as well as the panels being book-matched. It was intended that the mantle would appear to be "original" to the century old building.
