This ring was created to fit a clients Biron Emerald
15.85 x 10.31 I in size 13.75.mm in a size 13.75
The CAD was created and approved
The ring took 6 hours to mill in wax and weighed 36.31 pennyweights. ( 40 pennyweights is 2 ounces (troy ounces are 31.3 grams), It is a beast! This was the heaviest and most expensive silver ring I ever cast.
It failed to cast perfectly 2 times but made it on the 3rd try.
At that point I left for vacation and my daughter who is also a jeweler was to handle polish and set.
We had been assured that it was a Biron emerald which is lab created and has a decent hardness.
No one wanted to set it because on very close inspection it looked like it was a doublet and maybe made of glass.
In the end when I got home from vacation, it turned out to be a triplet with glass, dyed epoxy, a slice of Biron emerald and a third component, probably topaz but at that point not worth further study.
This client asked us to send it back so she could pursue a refund and I still have this setting with no gemstone in it.
I spent 300 on it and would happily sell it for 300 or set whatever gem you want in there...
