This is an example of a custom frame that tells a life story through the incorporation of black and wide photographs reduced a placed under glass tiles. It also contains a variety of motifs (musical notes, horse shoes, crown, typewriter) and words (destiny, altered, cherish) that tell the recipient's story as a former Miss America, incest surivivor and advocate, wifre, mother, author and motivational speaker. While I created this pieces based upon a book, this type of biographical piece requires significant input from the client about the potential recipient.
I begin with a 12x12 MDF frame with an opening for a 5x7 photo and I applied a variety of materials including ceramic tile, stained glass, china shards, marbles, faux pearls, vintage buttons and jewelry including several lockets, other found objects. In lieu of traditional grout, the space between the pieces is filled with a mixture of seed beads and tiny holeless beads.
