This was a project to design and construct a custom built pocket door for the customer's study entrance.
The doorway and entire installation had to be done without damaging the faux finish interior walls to the study. The door itself was constructed from ½" oak plywood with stock patterned trim for decoration on the exterior face to maintain the Spanish theme of the home. The surface finish was a dark oak stain with clear urethane varnish. The hallway walls had to be cut open to allow installation of the custom pocket door system, then resurfaced, textured, trimmed, and painted to match the existing.
Since there was not enough room in the walls for a split door it had to be a 48" x 80" unit contained on one side. The areas for the door to be installed also housed the thermostat unit and wiring, so I had to relocated it to another wall as well as move one electrical outlet. The door unit itself was straightforward construction and finish. The pocket door system had to have custom guides and rollers to keep the door centered, and reduce the friction as it moved in and out.
