Custom Skylight Window Cover–Construction & Installation

I was contracted to custom build a skylight window covering for a finished attic space. The client wanted something rustic using reclaimed lumber that was light blocking and easy to open and close. My design inspiration was an old barn door with a similar sliding track.

The window was made from reclaimed lumber and whitewashed to retain a natural aged look. The sliding device was fashioned from pipes and handmade sliders. It was then painted using 3 different colors to give it an aged rusty look.

The most difficult part was the installation. Precise measurements were required to work around a ceiling beam and to ensure minimal light leakage around the cover. It wasn't very heavy but had to be mounted to the studs for a secure fit.

We were both very pleased with the final result.
