I searched for months for an oversized (7") newel post emulating the design and workmanship of 100 years ago for our farmhouse. This exterior shutter door is made of solid cypress. Cypress is an oily wood which makes it withstand the elements impeccably. These doors are 8 foot tall and 32 inch wide to make a set for an exterior french door opening. They utilize an Endura brand 2 point locking weatherseal astragal. The exterior view has 2/3 of the upper door with 2 inch faux shutters and the lower section is a single raised panel. The interior view is raised panel upper and lower. The finish is a General Finishes Brown Mahogany oil base stain with a 6 coat hand rubbed urethane topcoat for exceptional durability.
