Dana Salters' Shadow Box For A Vintage Quilt
Dana requested a custom rustic shadow box to display her beautiful antique quilt. It was a unique quilt because there were names and dates stitched on it, which she wanted to display.
Due to the size (48" X 72") and design requirements of the frame needed to showcase the highlights of the quilt, there was no way for Dana to purchase something pre-made.
I was able to use oak barn wood from my grandfather's barn in West Virginia for the frame and I engineered an internal sub-frame designed to hold the quilt without damaging its delicate stitching.
This was a new idea for me, but it was fun! I have made picture frames and quilt racks but have never combined the two. Overall it was an enjoyable process and I would love to try something similar again in the future.
