The Davis Family wanted their pergola to mimic the shape of the patio; ovular with a concave "bite" on one end. The materials would be cedar stained to match their mahogany front entry and windows.
The crowning achievement of this project is the bent-wood band of the 2x4 rafters. This visually connects the shape of the pergola to that of the patio. It also solves a problem structurally when some of the cedar 2x4s are cantilevered over long distances.
