It is clear that the will-to-truth is really a will-to-deception. Evidently, this will-to-deception, dressed as a "will-to-truth", is obeying the preservation of the weak type of life. On the other hand, "genuine truthfulness will necessarily be found under the worst names" because it preserves a different type of life. Worst of all ,"genuine truthfulness" "is the only way someone can achieve greatness.
How much truth can a spirit tolerate, how much truth is it willing to risk? This increasingly became the real measure of value for me. Error (– the belief in the ideal –) is not blindness, error is cowardice . . . Every achievement, every step forward in knowledge, comes from courage, from harshness towards yourself, from cleanliness with respect to yourself . . . I do not refute ideals, I just put on gloves when I have to deal with them . . . We strive for what is forbidden : my philosophy will triumph under this sign, because it is precisely the truth that has been absolutely forbidden so far
