This is a pine domed top box that was used in the 18th century to carry documents such as deed or land grants while traveling. Many such boxes where were lined with newspaper, wool fabric or old book pages, this one is lined with a cotton fabric print. The box is covered with a tan leather and dark brown gimp at the edges. There is a small box lock and brass tacks with a small bail handle on top.
