Doll, a clothing boutique in a trendy area of Charlotte, needed to make a statement by their design. The owner wanted to exude simplicity and elegance without being too feminine. This androgynous environment was carefully crafted to create a relaxing décor that was also inviting. After extensive conversations with the owner to understand her vision and message, we decided to use the natural essence of mild steel. Trish, the owner of Doll, did not want the metal to be overpowering, so we gave it a brushed look to detract from the bulkiness. We used clean lines to keep the image from being too feminine. We selectively chose the color Pacific Coast to complement certain pieces of metal against the backdrop of other cool tones. The color was chosen, along with the metal design, to show the feminine details of Doll. To create warmth within the environment, we used reclaimed wood as the predominant feature in Doll. Finally, as another offset of femininity within the boutique, we incorporated concrete into all the counters. Slight imperfections were intentionally designed into the concrete for a unique presentation and image.
