This piece was commissioned for a fellow who adored old cars - he restored them and then celebrated by driving them to work daily.
While there is a sense of "forward movement" evidenced by the back-swept hair, the mosaic is an example of a "closed composition". The shape of the table is actually an enlarged version of the car shape and the multitude of small turquoise pieces of glass amongst the surrounding darker background draw the eye to the center of the piece.
For safety's sake, I grind the edges of each piece of glass; I am very familiar with the tendency for folks to reach out and sweep their hand across a piece....
Virtually any subject can be addressed via a mosaic; I would love to design a special piece for you!
