The first piece from my latest Series "Slither" is shown here.... it has already been sold, but since I will be making more pieces in this Series, I wanted to post her to give you a taste of what's to come. Follow my shop so that you can be updated when new pieces are completed.
Inspiration for this artwork came after listening to public radio; while I can't remember exactly, my take-away was "Snake in the Garden". In my creative zest, I chose to portray the snake as DECIDEDLY feminine.
Generally don't use much dichroic (shiny) glass in my work... I am often heard to say "copious inclusion of dichroic glass within a composition is a poor excuse for bad design"... In this instance, I wanted to make the snake as alluring as possible, so I included a plethora of dichroic "jewelry" around her neck.
Fused glass elements are permanently affixed to a "very organic" textured art glass background. This piece would look even more stunning if hung in front of a window or other light source.
To balance out the "visual weight" and dimension of the serpent head I add some stained glass flowers at either side near the bottom... this adds dimension and allowed me to flow elements outside of the composition, overlapping the frame.
Outside frame - 24"h x 20"w
Frame is wood, which I have painted, patinated, and waxed to seal.
