This liquor cabinet was designed to complement an existing French Empire style vitrine (glass display case) . All the trim moldings were custom made in-shop to match those of the vitrine and the feet of this piece were lathe-turned to match the feet of the vitrine. The original vitrine has lovely beveled glass and I built these doors using glass with the same bevel. The surface of the midlevel setback is verde granite, a reference to the marble used in original empire pieces (but much easier to maintain). The cabinet is made of birch which has been dyed to deepen the color. Both the top and bottom cases are hand-dovetailed together for strength, even though this detail is mostly hidden by molding and by using half-blind dovetails. The drawers are hand-dovetailed as well.
