Entryway Bench

Custom made front entry storage bench:

Roughly thirty years ago my brother asked me to build a storage bench to handle the chaos that only four young children could leave on the enclosed entryway to the kitchen. I had a good chuckle, then we worked out the dimensions, according to space and what he wanted to store and whether it should have back rest. This was essential to his peace of mind, after the ordeal of bundling up the kids to play outside and dealing with all "their paraphanalia". He could lean back and take a breath. Pictured here is the result, the dimensions are overall six feet long, two feet wide and forty inches tall. Built in pine the arm ends and back rest is all five quarter thick and the storage box and piano hinged lids are one inch thick. The bench is finished with three coats of polyurethane. Today he still sits on it in their new home, still being utilized for his wife and his mess! It is a beautiful custom made piece that can be passed on from generation to generation.
