Created for a retiring Air Force member to his specifications. He was leaving to run his family's B&B in the mid-west so I can imagine it is now prominently displayed.
This box is made from solid walnut and consists of four tiers: the base as a solid box for a name plate, the second as four pillars holding medallions of each command, the third a standalone shadow box for full-size medals, and the top for a floating flag and the rest of the mementos.
Every joint is cut with variable-spaced dovetails to add a handmade touch and a front frame is constructed with lap joints for strength and to hold the glass. Both glass panels are 1/4" thick with 1 1/4" hand-ground bevels which reflect the light in the pictures.
When completed, the entire box was about 42" wide, 38" tall and weighted in excess of 60 lbs.
