Exotic African Wenge Wood Natural Finish Picture Frame (8x10)
This frame is made from Wenge, a super hardwood from central Africa- the frame is solid Wenge, not a veneer. The grain pattern is remarkable and the splinters are literally like glass shards (don't worry, all the splinters in the board are already in my hands!) The beautiful dark coloring of this frame is 100% natural- I used no stain or paint. At first glance, the frame looks black, but when held to the light, an amazing spectrum of reds, browns, and ochres shine through. It would be virtually impossible to replicate this beautiful patterning with any other materials.
Like the frames from my 'Naked' line, this has the simplest finish possible so the natural color and grain pattern shine through. Three coats of shellac are brushed on between meticulous sanding and the frame is then finally hand-rubbed with paste wax. It's slow and tedious but yields a beautiful satin finish. Every frame will be unique, and even wood from the same board can vary in color, density, and texture- the two ends of a board that are a few feet apart can also be years or decades apart!
Every piece from my studio is designed, milled, and finished by hand in Atlanta, Georgia. Each frame comes with conservation glass and backing- as well as a hanger for walls and a stand for tables. Custom sizes or different woods are never a problem, just ask.
Cheers!
