Nike Of The Forest
The sculpture is 38" x 30" x 12" wood, painted and natural finish. It is currently available.
This carved wooden wall sculpture is a from a current theme that I have been working on.
The Nike Of The Forest theme is an expression of nature's resilience to the pressures that people have put upon this earth. The figuative element in this work borrows from the Greek sculpture Winged Victory of Samothrace.
As a current owner of a wood lot with a pond, this then extends into the concept of one being in the role of caretaker, or steward of the wood lot. I am ejoying creating these sculpture as a series of allegories.
The Sculpture is carved Hemlock, pigmented , then finished. The exposed wood grain on the figure, wings and tail are symmetrical, and mimics raptor plumage patterns The wings are lap jointed to the figure. The sculpture is made out of ten separate pieces of wood.
