Oil painting on canvas of a female cardinal flying out of a window. The client described the idea of a cardinal in a window trying to decide whether to fly or not. She wanted the image to convey feeling trapped and choosing to free oneself. The rest was up to me. I decided a female cardinal was more relevant than a male. I also chose the surreal mountainous background, the angle of the window, and the pastel color scheme. My framing collaborator chose the cherry wood, put it together, and stained it to suit the image.
