Floating Table

Inspired by Timothy Rousseau's "Eastern Table", this table is scaled up and simplified to yield a slightly larger table for more general purpose use. It serves equally well as a hall table, an entry table, a sofa table, or a personal writing table. It is the "right size" table.

Under rails lift the table top above the side rails, creating a "floating" table top.

The two outside faces of the legs are tapered, adding the appearance of motion, as if the table is about to spring up.

Mortise and tenon joinery.

Shallow mortise and tenons join the thick under rails to the side rails, which are then pinned with a ¼" walnut dowel.

The bottom of the under rails are curved and the upper corners rising above the side rails are cut to quarter circles, making for an interesting and attractive view from the end of the table.

A subtle arch at the ends of the table top add to the overall grace of the piece.

A cove on the underside edge of the table top leaves a slim ¼ inch face to the ¾ inch thick table top.

Dimension – 50(l) x 17(w) x 30(h) inches
