What a wonderful artist Michelle is! After meeting with us initially to better understand what we had in mind for the transom window, she prepared several artist drawings with suggested themes. Every one was a possibility that we could have been pleased with. With her talent it made it difficult to decide. We settled on one, then changed to another, and finally after incorporating elements from more than one, and with further changes and additions we finally settled on what has become a work of art in the 6' wide arched transom window above our 8' front doors. It incorporates elements of the family's heritage with a truly wonderful rondel at it's center.
This piece combines traditional stained glass and fused glass elements to create a free standing glass sculpture. The inspiration for this piece was the Frank Sinatra hit of the same name. My goal was to express the flowing lines and muted colors of the Trevi fountain in Rome. Building the base was an opportunity to capitalize on the watery feel of glass. The three coins were hand crafted by me and each have "amore" (love) embossed on them. The base is made of slate with the wood posts and rail securely anchored and has a wood frame.
Because it is free standing, this piece can be placed on a table, a desk, a room divider or a counter. It can be viewed from all angles and looks stunning with ambient light.
