What a wonderful artist Michelle is! After meeting with us initially to better understand what we had in mind for the transom window, she prepared several artist drawings with suggested themes. Every one was a possibility that we could have been pleased with. With her talent it made it difficult to decide. We settled on one, then changed to another, and finally after incorporating elements from more than one, and with further changes and additions we finally settled on what has become a work of art in the 6' wide arched transom window above our 8' front doors. It incorporates elements of the family's heritage with a truly wonderful rondel at it's center.
These plates incorporate a technique called fossil vitra. I use flowers from my garden to create one of a kind plates for special occasions or for occasions to feel special. The flowers are coated in layers of glass enamel and placed under clear glass. I fire them in my kiln which burns away the organic material leaving a fossil in the glass. This is then incorporated into the design of the plate.
The gentle arc of the plates give them an elegant, modern look. They are food safe but should not be used in the microwave. I recommend they be hand washed.
