The iron-clad training ship Georg Stage, built in 1882 in Copenhagen, Denmark, is best known for her trip around the world as the "Joseph Conrad", under the command of Alan Villiers, author of The Cruise of the Conrad. She briefly became a private yacht, and then a training ship for the United States Maritime Commission during World War II. The Joseph Conrad has been an exhibition vessel on the Mystic Seaport waterfront in Connecticut since 1947.
