A very good client with a large trophy collection asked for a table using these legs. He had a couple of chairs that needed side tables, but would consider any design that made good use of the legs.
I thought this one over for several weeks, searching for a starting point; some suitable inspiration. While researching African artifacts when I came upon a group of Maasai war shields. One of these provided the basis for the design of the table top. The veneers were chosen to recreate the colors of the shield and because of their exceptional figure. The base of the tables is toned down to keep the focus on the trophy, like the background of a stage.
The trophy room is re-arranged from time to time, so I wanted the piece to be as versatile as possible. The pattern of the shield helped, with a natural dividing line down the center. The two halves can be joined to make a coffee table or split up for use as chair-side tables.
This was truly a unique challenge, with very satisfying results. Give me a call - Let's talk about your one of a kind project!
