When Gretchen was born I made her special knobs for her white bureau. When folks ask me how durable the handmade glass knobs I make are I show them this picture and answer "Gretchen is now 8 years of age and the knobs are as fine today as the day I installed!" them! This bureau is in Gretchen's and her new baby sisters bedroom/playroom, a room that gets great use. Yes I am going to make Inga a special set of knobs for her new white bureau too!
Please note Mom found these second hand bureaus and repainted them. It is now a show piece!
Like everything I make I follow a concise & technical schedule to cool glass (in a kiln) to insure a high quality object that will not break under normal circumstances.
The hardware and tools used to make these glass knobs were designed by me years ago. I wanted to make glass knobs for my kitchen and I could not find any hardware let alone tools to accomplish this. The same manufacturing plant in the mid west makes these widgets and tools for me today just as they did back in 1995. Today I sell the glass knobs and tool kits (for other glass artists to make knobs) throughout the world.
