Hall Cabinet

Well, this one took some time. I was commissioned last summer to build this piece for some wonderful clients in Boulder. We designed five different versions and landed on this one to adorn the entryway to their beautiful home. The cherry framework and top was the easy part. We sourced and analyzed every local salvaged piece of walnut we could find for the door panels and it just wasn't coming together. The clients(& me) wanted something truly special and unique for this element of the piece. Eight months later, we finally found this highly figured crotch walnut. The wood came to me from a gentleman who was holding on to a block of walnut cut down from his grandfather's farm in Iowa some 70 years ago. It was a great find and just what we all were looking for. I think it was worth the wait.
