I made one of these for myself first, one of the baristas at a coffee shop I used to frequent kept complaining that my stainless travel mug kept burning her hand. So I went home that night and figured out how to fix a rim of oak on to it.
Obviously these are not my first ones, but they are a pretty good set of examples. The cups themselves are stainless steel, the wood is cut and shaped just like a barrel. Once it's all assembled I have a few other tricks that I'm not going to share to keep the wood nice and tight together for the life of your cup.
Be aware, these are wood, as such they're not going to fare well in a dishwasher. Hand wash only.
