Handmade Porcelain Dinnerware - Contemporary Design

These elegant and functional plates are handmade in my Asheville, North Carolina pottery studio. All of my work is made with fine porcelain clay and fired to high temperatures for strength and durability. Any number of place settings may be purchased, or plates of various sizes may be purchased separately. Sizes & prices are listed below.

The Contemporary plates are made with a variation of Shino glazes that originated in 16th Century Japan. I use a "carbon-trap" shino exclusively formulated for porcelain, and it is the carbon-trapping that creates a range of results in the glaze. Some pieces are predominantly orange with just a dusting of the carbon effects, others are predominantly grey and even almost black. When ordering your items, please specify your preference and I will contact you about availability.

Shino glazes almost always have an occasional irregularity, and this is consistent with the Buddhist aesthetic of "wabi-sabi" that centers on an acceptance of imperfection. Each plate is very similar, yet one-of-a-kind.

Plates are designed so they will stack easily in a dishwasher. All of my dinnerware is food, dishwasher, and microwave-safe.
