Josh was extremely helpful in the planning stages of my project. His work product was top notch. When we had to purchase different cabinet hardware, I asked him to send me a bill for the difference and he wouldn't accept any more money. This guy is old-school good people. This piece is a customization of an existing product.
The design interest here is in re-imagining the connection details rather than relying on the threaded pipe fitting as is usually done. The typical construction method for these popular pieces lacks structural rigidity, vertical continuity and dimensional consistency as a result of the high number of connection points and variability of each individual part.
In this design, the flanges and bell couplers are welded at precise location providing a pressed fit over the width of the pine planks. The planks are then bolted over the continuous verticals, clamping them in place and locking the system together. In this way the hardware detail along the edges of the pine planking, once merely an aesthetic embellishment, is now an essential structural element.
