Interlocking Coasters
I've always been intrigued with tessellation, so the idea here was to create a set of coasters based on a simple tessellation. I began with a simple sketch which I then used to create the computer file.
I used 1/4 engineered birch, which I sanded, stained, and then applied several coats of lacquer. I then used the laser to cut the individual pieces. On the back I added felt pieces to prevent the coasters from scratching table surfaces.
Coasters are functional as well as fun to play with.
