These earrings are sure to turn some heads! They are made with wings from the Sternocera aequisignata beetle which is known for its coveted emerald, sapphire, and violet wings. They measure approximately 1 1/2 to 2" in length (including the ear wires), and have a simple design to showcase the wings. The pictures above are the best I could do to convey the colors, but I'm afraid they do now show just how vibrant these wings really are!
The use of these wings in adornment is an ancient practice in Asia, especially Thailand, and is now becoming more and more popular here in the West. The beetle symbolizes many different things, including rebirth, stability, practicality, and groundedness. According to the Symbolic Meanings Blog by Avia Venefica, "They move with bellies always close to the earth, and so their wisdom is sacred and deep." Keep yourself grounded as well as fashionable with these earrings!
***I also want to add, after this was brought up by a very eco-conscious buyer, that this particular species of beetle has a very short life span of about 2 days and their wings are harvested after they have died, so no beetles were harmed in the making of these earrings!
Choose from 2 different metal colors: Gold and silver. Also, the wings vary in size and color as well as the type of ear wire used (shown above). They can range from 1 1/4 to 1 1/2". The majority are mostly emerald in color, but some have more of a sapphire or violet hue. If you have a preference as to size, color, or ear wire type let me know in the buyer comments!
